This report from Friends of the Earth Europe shows how countries that boost their recycling rates can add as many as 500,000 new jobs while cutting their waste to landfill significantly.
From the introduction to the report: As the UK and the rest of Europe attempt to recover from the global financial crisis and the consequent recession, we are entering a period in which Governments are urgently seeking solutions to curtail the size of the public sector, whilst encouraging innovation and enterprise by a hesitant private sector. At the same time, despite the failure of Copenhagen, the imperative of climate change and the need to advance to a low carbon economy remains undimmed and urgent.
